Lot Essay

Warmer climates bring energy and life to animals. Almost effervescent in their expressions and movement, the ink here was used to create lightness both in tone and mood.

This piece celebrates a selection of animals found in colder climates, in all their thick-coated glory. The density of the mark-making here brings out the heaviness of their coats to fight the cold weather.

In a fast paced, digital world, Chanel has always found solace in the act of putting pen to paper. She loves the intricate detail afforded by pen and ink, and the painstaking but incredibly rewarding end result. She spent her summers surrounded by Scandinavian nature and woodland creatures, which no doubt influenced her favourite subject matter to draw, as expressed here.
