Lot Essay

Emma much enjoyed depicting Orange. It was painted last summer and en plein air, which worked wonders for the light effects. It is part of an ongoing series of fruits on which Emma is currently working.

Emma Sutton lives in Wandsworth and has been painting since she was a child. She works in a variety of media but favours painting with oil on wood. She studied History of Art at St Andrews University in Scotland and was an active member of The Arts Society, in which she took part in a number of exhibitions. Her painting of St Andrews from West Sands was chosen as the cover for the cards to congratulate the graduates of 2013, as well as to celebrate the University's 600th Anniversary. She has also exhibited at the Guggleton Farm Arts Project in Dorset and was highly commended at the gallery’s annual Young Artists Christmas Exhibition, where she sold a number of paintings. Emma also exhibited in Christie’s London Staff Exhibition 2017 UNTITLED: Insider Art Show and sold her painting City Symbols, which captures the city’s architectural landmarks along with the ever-changing light and mood of the capital.
