This small abstract canvas was painted by Jack Knight in the early days of 2018. Inspired by Gerhard Richter, the painting’s many layers, strokes, scrapes and colour conveys a sense of intensity and movement. The red and rusty orange has a glowing effect opposite the bright white and neutral greens, while the various thick layers of colours, blurring one into another, distort the ideas of up and down, left and right. Just like something that may be found in nature, this work has a sense of balance and beauty somewhere at the intersection between intention and pure chance.
Jack Knight completed a foundation course at Camberwell School of Art in 2008, and went on to graduate from Leeds University having studied History of Art in 2011. He currently works for Collectrium, assisting clients with the management of their collections.
