This watercolour was realised in 2016 in Marie’s courtyard during her first summer in London. The summer afternoon was joyful and relaxing, one could finally wear dresses and uncover one’s legs after an endless winter.
Marie du Mesnil, born in Paris, currently lives and works in London. She began to draw and paint at a very young age and always used art as an outlet and as a way of expressing unspoken emotions. Art has always had a therapeutic effect on Marie, allowing for self-reflection and to think about her place in her immediate environment. She relates to different experiences, impressions and emotions such as the ones she faced with while living abroad in cities such as Madrid, Berlin and London. Her works are often completed in one go. This is why ink, watercolours or black pens are her favoured tools. She likes to switch from realist to abstract creation and usually keeps her works to herself.
