Lot Essay

This piece created by Toby Basco entitled, “The Journey” (2012), is sketched in color pencil and glazed in gel medium for added texture, on 11” by 14” canvas and sealed with lacquer. The scene looks into the Unknown Being trying to make it through a random block in Brooklyn, New York City. But the journey is challenged when trying to navigate through the cultural nuances while pushing a camel through major city block in the year 2012. The Unknown Being is dressed in a hooded sweater and a tutu while wearing boots. To some it may seem random or possibly odd but to others it depicts the unique experiences and/or individuality one can be exposed to in a urban melting pot such as New York City or any city for that matter. But questions remain as to what the Unknown Being is thinking or feeling in 2012?
