Il est représenté en samabangha sur un lotus, placé sur une base. Sa main droite principale est en varadamudra et tient un rosaire, la gauche tenant une conque. Les deux autres mains brandissent la massue et le cakra. Il est vêtu d'un dhoti et paré de bijoux. Son visage est serein et son front ceint d'une kirtimakuta. Il est flanqué par six adorants, Shiva et Brahma.

Lot Essay

This finely sculpted stele shows Vishnu, the Hindu god as sustainer as well preserver. He is dedicated to the maintenance of the or the universal order. His principle hands hold rosary and conch while the upper hands show the club and wheel. He is sumptuous ornamented with finely executed jewellery. Three attendants are flanking him at either side. The first pair, closest to his legs, is probably a personification of his attributes as one is holding the conch. At head level is depicted Shiva holding trident and Brahma with manuscript. The hard surface, the crisp and sharp details are characteristic for sculptures from this region.
