Lot Essay

A box with very similar style of decoration is illustrated in Sarah-Katharina Acevedo et al., Meissen snuff-boxes of the Eighteenth Century, Munich, 2013, p. 277, cat. no. 71, where the painting of the portrait on the interior of the cover is attributed to Johann Jacob Wagner (1710-1797).
