The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This painting is lined and secure on a keyed stretcher. The varnish has yellowed slightly with age. Scuffing and minor pinpoint losses are visible along the extreme edges. There are minor touches of restoration in the sitter’s face, mainly concentrated in the proper left cheek. Discolored restoration along the craquelure is visible in the sitter’s neck and proper left collar. Inspection under ultraviolet light further reveals a few small touches of restoration scattered in the dress. There is further restoration in the proper right arm. Further inspection is hindered by an opaque varnish. The painting can be hung in its present state.
