Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Oil on panel. The panel appears to be straight. Looking at the panel from the reverse, there is a light split, running horizontally along the top 1/3 line. This does not appear to have gone to the front of the panel. The painted surface is showing some localised shrinkage. The painted surface has some abrasions and surface scratchings, predominantly to the right half of the picture (visible in the illustration).
Examination under UV shows an uneven varnish layer, which fluoresces green. There are spots of inpainting and retouching.
Overall the work presents well in a brown wooden frame, with a gilt inner section.
