Lot Essay

Primarily a painter and printmaker, Tom Hammick is also Senior Lecturer in Fine Art Painting and Printmaking at The University of Brighton and a visiting lecturer at both the University of Ulster and Nova Scotia College of Art & Design. Hammick has won an international reputation for his vibrant and colourful printmaking. His atmospheric landscape prints emerge from cut wood. The images are metaphors for the human condition: reflecting states of mind, transience, fragility and awe. His work is in many public and corporate collections, including the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Deutsche Bank, Yale Centre for British Art and The Library of Congress Washington DC.
