Lot Essay

'If everyone drew, it would be a kinder and more interesting world.'

Andrew Marr, a Patron of The Big Draw, is one of Britain's best known journalists, political commentators and broadcasters. He has interviewed most of the country's top politicians. Marr has received more than a dozen major awards for writing and broadcasting – and two from the Broadcasting Press Guild for the Andrew Marr Show and his book, Andrew Marr's History of Modern Britain. His recent A Short Book about Drawing reveals that although he hasn't had lessons, since childhood he has been at his happiest with a pen or brush in his hand. One way or another he draws or paints most days, even if it's just a doodle on the edge of a newspaper.
