Edo period (late 17th century)
The moulded foliate-rimmed dish decorated in iron-red, green, blue, yellow and black enamels and gilt with a bird perched on a bowing length of bamboo amongst pine and plum blossom issuing from brush fences, another bird swooping down to one side, chocorate rim
24.9cm. diam.

Provenance
Sherborne Castle, Dorset, probably collected by John, third Earl of Bristol, whose sister Anne was a close friend of Mary II while she was in Holland. His family was amongst the first to support William's accession to the throne in November 1688 when they stayed at Sherborne Castle.
