A Fine Large Imari Dish
Edo period (late 17th- early 18th century)
Decorated in iron-red and gilt on underglaze blue with a roundel enclosing a lady standing between two screens, one showing a landscape with figures and pavilions and the other with cherry tree and bamboo, two vases with flowering plants on the floor, large peonies in the background, surrounded by a band of hanabishi shippo with six reserves of auspicious objects, the wide rim with two similar scenes of a lady and screens, further ladies, holding a flower spray, some walking a cat and some leading a cart with flowers, the reverse with peony, plum and cherry blossom bordered by the bands of geometric and vine patterns, further flowers in two circumferential lines to the base
