From a private American Collection and thence by descent

An Imari Teapot, Two Beakers, Covers and Saucers, and A Teabowl and Saucer
Edo period (early 18th century)
All similarly decorated in iron-red, green, yellow, aubergine and black enamels and gilt on underglaze blue, each saucer with a central roundel enclosing two farmers and an ox in a rice field, mountains beyond, surrounded by a rocky landscape with pine and pavilions, beneath it a riverscape with two men having a picnic beside a large bottle with initials inscribed FW and a man in a boat being punted on a river, the rim with a geometric design, the reverse with three sprays of flower, each beaker and cover similarly decorated to the exterior, the well and the interior of cover with a roundel enclosing a spray of cherry blossom, a band of geometric design below the gilt rim, the teapot and cover similarly decorated, the rounded handle and the spout with karakusa and red flowerheads, the finial modelled as a crouching tiger
The saucers 14cm. diam. (3), the teabowl 7.7cm. diam. (1), beakers 9.5cm. high (2), the teapot 16cm. wide
