A Large Imari Bowl
Edo period (late 17th century)
Decorated with iron-red and gilt on underglaze blue, the front and the back similarly decorated with a scene with two bijin under wisteria, each scene divided by pavilions and cherry trees all below a band chrysanthemum and scrolling karakusa, the well with a roundel enclosing flowering trees on a tripod stand, the everted rim with a band of chrysanthemum and leaves above another band of plum and scrolling karakusa, the foot with two bands of flower and scrolling foliage, the base with a roundel enclosing a flower spray
