A Pair of Imari Dishes
Edo period (late 17th - early 18th century)
The foliate-rimmed dishes each decorated in iron-red and gilt on underglaze blue with a central roundel enclosing the pavilions with a maple tree issuing from rockwork by a bridge, surrounded by four alternate panels of peonies and a pavilion with pine and cherry blossom, the reverse with sprays of plum, chrysanthemum, peony and dianthus, a band of stylised cloud and circumferential rings by the footring
33.7cm. and 34.1cm. diam.
