A Pair of Imari Salts, A Pair of Arita Salts and An Arita Mustard Pot
Edo period (early 18th century)
The Imari salts, each with concave well supported on a domed base and small tripod feet, decorated in iron-red, green, aubergine and black enamels and gilt, the lower body with lappets and eight alternate panels in lotus-flower shape with carnation and prunus sprays, the upper body with three sprays of plum and a border of higaki pattern, a band of karakusa and flower patterns to the shoulder, a further prunus spray to the well; the Arita salts, each of waisted cylindrical shape on spreading foot, decorated in underglaze blue with two ho-o birds amongst chrysanthemums and peonies, the shoulder with scrolling clouds with flowerheads, the concave well with a spray of chrysanthemum; the Arita mustard pot decorated in underglaze blue with flowering trees issuing from rocks and a ho-o bird perched on a branch, the cover with a central opening decorated with further branches of flowers, a round handle with karakusa design, metal mount
