Edo period (early 18th century)
Of octagonal form decorated in underglaze blue with a European harbour scene showing two tall ships, a rocky shore and a fortified wall in the distance beneath clouds, the well with a roundel showing similar ships and craft with seamen, surrounded by an octagonal leafy frame, the inner rim with decorative borders with eight leaves in the corners, a band of half-flowerheads and leaves above the footring, a Chinese style inscription Dai min seika nen sei to the base
