An Armorial Imari Dish
Edo period (late 17th – early 18th century)
Decorated in iron-red, green, yellow and black enamels and gilt on underglaze blue to the centre with a faux coat-of-arms of a swan and crown, surrounded by panels with pine, bamboo and plum beside peony issuing from rockwork, divided by stylised flowers and vine against a red ground, the rim with a band of stylised waves and flowerheads, the reverse similarly decorated, the base with a Chinese style characters daimin banreki nensei
