Lot Essay

This form was adapted from Japanese Kakiemon soba cups, which are very slightly shorter and more flared. For Japanese Kakiemon originals with similar decoration, see Asahi Shimbunsha, Kakiemon ten, Exhibition Catalogue, Tokyo, 1993, p. 147, no. 111. For a similar beaker is in the Wark Collection, see Ulrich Pietsch, Early Meissen Porcelain, The Wark Collection from the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, London, 2011, p. 288, no. 292.
