A Pair of Imari Bowls and Covers
Edo period (19th century)
Each decorated in iron-red, green and black enamels and gilt, on one side with five Dutchmen in conversation all reserved on an iron red ground, the other side with a sailing four-masted Dutch ship, divided by tree branches, the interior painted in underglaze blue with a central floral roundel, a geometric pattern band at the rim, the cover similarly decorated, a ju (felicitation or longevity) character to the top
