The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

As can be seen in the illustration these screens have some typical old wear to the paper overall, particularly around the hinges. There are some small repairs and associated touching-in to the pigments. The figure screen - as can also be seen in the photograph there has been considerable wormage to the paper which has been museum restored. There is a difference in the colour of the papers used. There are some stains to the paper, particularly to the right-hand panel of the figure screen. Both brocade mounts have some wear and slight wormage. The lacquer frames are of some age and have typical old wear. A small part of the bottom frame of the ship screen is detached, which can be easily reattached, and a few screws of the frame lacking. The backing papers have some marks and a few small tears.
