A Rare and Documentary Arita Teapot and Cover
Edo period (early 18th century)
The rounded octagonal body decorated in underglaze blue with a seascape depicting a dozen European ships and clouds, the shoulder with eight panels filled with flowers and leaves, the foot with a band of lappets, the eight-sided spout with leaf design, two sea horses and a shell to the base of the spout, the looped handle with a leaf and fish, the domed cover decorated with four dolphins surrounded by a band of lappets, the finial with a rosette, a Chinese style inscription Dai min seika nen sei to the base
