A Rare Elegantly Mounted Imari Coffee Pot and Cover
Edo period (late 17th - early 18th century); the mount, 18th century, German
The octagonal tapering body with curved pierced handle for mounting, decorated in iron-red, green, brown-red and black enamels, pink wash and gilt on underglaze blue, the double-structure upper part open-worked and decorated with stylised flowerheads and foliage, above the lappets with cherry flowerheads, the domed cover similarly decorated; fitted with gilt-metal German mounts of tap modelled as a mythical dolphin, the tripod base with dolphins, the finial modelled as a Neptune's horse and further decoration to the rims and handle

This model was copied by the Samson factory, Paris, in the 19th century. A Samson example in the collection of Groninger Museum is published together with this lot in Christiaan J.A. Jorg, Fine and Curious, Japanese Export Porcelain in Dutch Collections, (Amsterdam, 2003), p.206.
