A Small Five-Piece Imari Garniture
Edo period (late 17th - early 18th century)
Comprising three oviform jars and covers and two beaker vases with everted rims, all decorated in iron-red and gilt on underglaze blue; each jar with peonies and chrysanthemums issuing from rockwork, the shoulder with three panels enclosing a bird and flowers divided by flowerheads, the neck with a band of half-flowerheads and karakusa, the cover similarly decorated with peonies and chrysanthemums, the finial modelled as a karashishi [lion dog]; each beaker vase similarly decorated with peonies and chrysanthemums, a band of further peonies to the neck
Each approx. 25.5cm. high (jars with covers), 18cm. and 17.5cm. high (beaker vases)
