A Large Hirado Vase
Edo- Meiji period (19th century)
Decorated in underglaze blue with four panels, the first with a rocky landscape with pavilions, the second with a dragon in scrolling clouds, the third with a mountain landscape with a waterfall and trees, and the fourth with a karashishi and peonies, all of the panels divided by four high-relief mythical beast masks on incised key-fret ground, high-relief bands of petals to the shoulder and the foot, a band of shippo design beneath, an incised key-fret band to the rim
