A Rare Cloisonné Hanging Vase
Meiji period (late 19th century)
The body with everted wave form rim with lappet decoration, an applied copper gilt knop cast in relief with a fan and flowers to the base, the body worked in gilt wire and various coloured cloisonné enamels with bands enclosing various flowers and butterflies, a band of lappets alternately containing stylised butterflies and ho-o birds to the lower body, the lappets around the rim alternately decorated with stylised dragons and ho-o birds, gilt copper rim, gilt copper liner
