A Rare Pair of Cloisonné Enamelled Porcelain Vases
Signed Dainihon seizo Shippo gaisha kojin Takeuchi Chubei, Meiji Period (late 19th century)
Each of bulbous form with tall everted neck, the porcelain body over-enamelled in various colours and decorated in wire with wave-design roundels scattered amongst stylised flowers and scrolling foliage, a band of stylised flowers to the foot and a band of abstract design to the rim, the inner rim decorated in underglazed blue with a band of lappets below two circumferential lines

Lot Essay

Takeuchi Chubei was a cloisonné artist from Aichi prefecture who was in particular well-known for his cloisonné works on porcelain. His works were exhibited and awarded in the Naikoku Kangyo Hakurankai [National Industrial Exposition].
