Two Hirado Ewers and Two Hirado Vases
Edo - Meiji period (19th century)
The first, a ewer of globular form with a tall neck, a moulded dragon forming the spout and handle decorated in underglaze blue, the lower body decorated in underglaze blue with coastal landscapes with mountains and trees to both sides, the cover in the form of a sacred pearl

The second a ewer of globular form with a flattened flaring mouth, a moulded dragon forming the handle, the neck with a raised band imitating a bamboo node, the lower body decorated in underglaze greyish blue with a tiger in a rocky landscape with bamboo and a waterfall, above an overlapping lappet band, the scrolling clouds to both sides of the neck, the foot with a band of shippo

The third a vase of ovoid form with flaring neck, decorated in underglaze blue with Japanese cypress trees in mist, concentric lines above the foot

The fourth, a vase of square form on four mask-headed feet, with two handles in the shape of dragons, decorated in underglaze blue, aubergine and green enamels and gilt, the front and back faces with rocky mountain landscapes with waterfalls and trees, two facets with stylised scrolling clouds
