Two Hirado Reticulated Koro [Incense Burner] and Two Hirado Vases
Both koro, Meiji period (late 19th century); the vases, Edo-Meiji period (19th century)
A koro supported on a tall pedestal encircled with two coiled dragons on a tiered square base with four curved feet, decorated in underglaze blue with mountain landscape of huts and trees, the upper section in the form of a lantern, pierced basketwork to show an internal container painted with a butterfly and flower on each side, below a band of rinpo and cranes in flight, two handles of mythical beast masks, with pierced domed cover

Another small koro supported by a tiered chrysanthemum-form stem resting on a square base with four feet, the upper globular body with pierced shaped panels of basketwork and stylised chrysanthemum flowerhead on each side, with dragon handles, the upper body and the base decorated in underglaze blue with cloud scrolls, birds and stylised wave design, pierced domed cover

The vase of double gourd form, a dragon coiled around the neck, decorated in underglaze blue and a very pale greenish glaze, one side of the lower body with a landscape with a pavilion, huts and trees on a cliff, further houses on a slope to the other side, the upper body with three high mountains

The second, a vase of baluster form, decorated in underglaze blue with four panels, the first panel with two cranes and pine tree and the other three panels with rocky landscape scenes, each divided by four high-relief mythical beast masks, the foot with a band of seigaiha [wave pattern], a key fret border to the rim
26.5cm. and 19.5cm. high (koro), 17cm. high (double-gourd vase), 14.3cm. high (vase)
