Lot Essay

Three women in the foreground are collecting brine on a shore to make salt, two further women on the salt flats behind. A flock of plovers fly in formation above.

This print is from an untitled set based on the classical theme of Mu Tamagawa [Six Jewel rivers]. The rivers were situated in various provinces and celebrated in classical poetry for their beauty.
