Lot Essay

Priest Premier Jokai was the religious name of Taira no Kiyomori (1118-1181). Despite his religious vows, Kiyomori remained haunted by his slain enemies. In this design, Kiyomori is shown looking out over a winter garden covered with snow where the rocks and trees have turned to skulls and skeletons.
