The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting presents well in natural light. The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. The relining process has caused some thinning to the upper paint glazes. There is a fine pattern of craquelure across the surface. The paint remains stable. In natural light there is some suggestion of retouching to the flesh tones. The painting appears to have been cleaned recently. Examination under UV light confirms the afore mentioned retouching to the face. There has been some strengtheing to the darker passages of drapery. There is some further minor scattered retouching. There is a cloudy varnish that precludes further examination.
