Lot Essay
Emile Wauters was a pupil of J.F.Portaels at the Bruxells Academy. Wauters painted Florence Sharon, later Lady Fermor-Hesketh in 1895, see Easton Neston; sold Sotheby's house sale, 17-19 May 2005, lot 197 (£24,000, including premium) and it likely this self-portrait was a gift to Lady Fermor-Hesketh or her mother at this time.

Pastel on paper. There is some minor surface dirt to the sheet. There is some cockling to the sheet, which is visible to the upper left corner. There is a small loss to the right side of the head, which has been retouched. Pigments remain strong. Not examined out of the frame.
