The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
In overall fairly good country house condition.
With the inevitable knocks, marks, losses, scratches and shrinkage cracks, consistent with age and use.
As stated the decoration with some refreshments and losses and the japanning has dulled and discoloured over time. Some notable losses to the upper section drawer fronts, which in areas have rubbed and chipped losses revealing bare timber. This is particularly noticeable to the highpoints of the raised decoration, to some of the figures and trees particularly.
Each side of the upper section with some constructional shrinkage which would benefit from securing.
The right hand side decoration in poor condition and appears to have suffered heat damage historically and with noticeable peeling and rubbing to the decoration. This too would benefit from securing to avoid further deterioration.
The drawers with shrinkage to the drawer linings throughout.
Some drawers with later blocking to counteract shrinkage.
The locks and handles replaced. The escutcheons possibly original.
The brass handles and escutcheons with polish residue, tarnishing and wear.
As stated the legs replaced, probably in the 19th or early 20th century. The back right leg with further repair and reattachment more recently.
Evidence of historic but apparently inactive woodworm throughout.
Otherwise highly decorative and ready to use.
