Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
In overall good condition. With the inevitable knocks, marks, losses, scratches and shrinkage cracks, consistent with age and use. With some dark staining and marks throughout. The faux handles original and in good condition but tarnished and with polish residue overall. Some minor shrinkage to the sides. Some bubbling and associated repairs to the veeners. As stated originally with fitted commode interior, now with later timber shelf and bare. The backboard with horizontal shrinkage split. Some knocks and losses to the 'drawer' mouldings, particularly to the upper two which form the hinged top. Some evidence of historic but apparently inactive woodworm throughout, most noticably to the backboards and dustboard - however some scattered holes to the front of the commode. Overall useful, structurally secure and highly decorative.
