The modern example supplied by Jensen gilders - in good overall condition with bright but distressed gilding, rubbed deliberately to match the gilding on the period example. rubbed to reveal dark clay and bole layers.
The George II example in overall good condition. With the inevitable knocks, marks, losses, scratches and shirnkage consistent with age and use. The quality of carving to the moulding lacking and rubbed overall with some knocks, scuffs to corners. The platform with some heat damage, cracqelure and blooming. The eagle with some cracking, shrinkage and losses to edges of carving. The gilding dull in tone and with 19th century bitumen gilding. Tarnished and with rubbing, wear and losses. Rubbed to reveal yellow and green clay and bole.
Both highly decorative and a corresponding pair.
