Angela Cummings (b. 1944) joined Tiffany & Co. in 1967 and designed her first full jewelry collection under her own name for the firm in 1974. Cummings became famous for her inlaid designs featuring semi-precious stones such as black jade, mother of pearl, coral and lapis lazuli, creating the perfect combination of ancient craftsmanship and contemporary design. In 1984, she left Tiffany & Co. to form her own business and opened a boutique in Bergdorf Goodman in New York.

An article that appeared in the October 1985 issue of “Connoisseur” called Angela Cummings, “the artist of female adornment.” This designer truly creates feminine jewelry to accessorize a woman’s costuming. By synthesizing elements found in nature with conventional jewelry materials, she creates classical styles that are as appealing today as when they were first introduced. This particular pair of earrings, which are set with three types of stone, were both costly and time consuming to produce and today remain wearable, iconic and highly collectible in the world of 20th century jewelry design.
