Lot Essay

By family repute these emeralds were a gift from the Emperor Napoléon to General Frédéric-Henri Walther (1761-1813) for the birth of his daughter Josephine, a goddaughter of Napoléon's, and have since remained in the same family.

The emeralds were likely later remounted into a necklace at André Aucoc, the famous French Parisian jeweller.
