Other lots featured in this group are a Cartier Art Déco coral and rock crystal bracelet and a selection of large gemstone necklaces and sculptural cuff bracelets, many by Angela Pintaldi, which epitomise Victoria, Lady de Rothschild’s style (lots 91-137).
Jewels from the collection of Romana McEwen, née von Hofmannsthal, provide a fascinating glimpse into her taste and her family’s history. Many of the items were acquired to mark special occasions in her life and others descended from her forebears through her mother the American heiress Alice Astor. Amongst the lots offered are three Art Déco jewels by Cartier comprising a carved sapphire, emerald and diamond jabot pin, a nephrite, lapis lazuli and diamond bracelet and an important diamond bracelet depicted in an iconic studio portrait of Alice Astor taken in 1939 by Cecil Beaton (lots 206-226).
