Circular and singular-cut diamonds, circa 1940, French mark, signed Van Cleef & Arpels, maker’s mark for Péry et Fils, numbered

Size/Dimensions: 18.2 cm
Gross Weight: 110.8 grams

First designed in 1934 under the supervision of Renée Puissant, Alfred Van Cleef’s daughter and artistic director of Van Cleef & Arpels, and named after Louis 'Ludo' Arpels, the signature 'Ludo' bracelet has been successful since its introduction.

The 'Ludo' model has been produced in various versions: 'Briquette' features a weave pattern, composed of narrow rectangular gold panels in a brickwork design, whereas 'Hexagone' with its honeycomb appearance consists of a mosaic arrangement of small articulated hexagonal links.

The articulated strap is usually made in yellow gold, but also in platinum and rarely white gold. Typically, the 'Ludo' bracelet is set with rubies, sapphires and diamonds within a star shaped collet. Depending on the model, the clasp is designed as a buckle set with diamonds, as per this lot offered for sale, or as a bridge of rubies or sapphires.
