The color pink occurs in diamonds when they undergo significant stress within the earth, which causes the carbon atoms to displace and a distortion in the diamond’s crystal lattice. When light passes through these displaced planes, red light is selectively transmitted. For the majority of diamonds in this category, although it is red light, the transmission is weak and produces the pink hue we see in pink diamonds.
