‌Anna Sherwood Porter was a leader in women’s social activities in Cleveland, Ohio in the1920s and 30s. Anna and her husband Frederic S. Porter were supporters of charities and public causes, including the Cleveland Art Museum, the Town Hall Lecture Series, and the Cleveland Hermit Club, an organization devoted to the performing arts. Anna was also an integral member of the Town and Country Garden Club of Cleveland and the Garden Center of the Greater Cleveland Botanical Center. Additionally, the Porters were one of the first families to build a home in the newly planned Shaker Heights suburb.
