Lot Essay

The story of the Buccellati maison begins with an apprenticeship.
In 1900s, the jewellery and silverware workshop Beltrami & Besnati opened in Milan at Via Margherita 5. It was there that the young Mario Buccellati started working, developing his passion and learning traditional goldsmithing techniques.

Over time, he combined creative talent with entrepreneurial vision. In 1919, he succeeded Angelo Besnati, taking over the business and renaming it A. Besnati di Mario Buccellati.
This brooch captures that decisive moment of transition: it reflects the Besnati heritage while marking the emergence of the Buccellati atelier, already defined by a refined approach to gold and silver craftsmanship, and a constant pursuit of beauty, detail, and technical excellence.
