The present tool fob inside two 18K gold medallions is a keepsake likely commissioned by American socialite and Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton, as a gift to racecar driver Prince Igor Troubetzkoy to commemorate their private wedding in 1947. The maker’s mark on the medallions is of Arthus Bertrand, one of the greatest French metalworking ateliers who created awards, medals and jewelry for more than two centuries. The profile image on one medallion strongly resembles the couple and, on the other medallion, also in crisp detail, is the Troubetzkoy royal family's Coat of Arms. The concealed tools within the medallions were made in France by respected cutler Charles Louis Eloi Pernet. Pernet created his own company, Eloi Pernet, which remains a major manufacturer best known for pocket knives, coin knives and cigar cutters.

Following Hutton and Troubetzkoy’s divorce in 1951, Igor presented the memento to his brother, Prince Youcca Troubetzkoy who later gifted it to his longtime friend, a family member of the present owner, in whose possession it has been since 1979.
