Fresh to the market and in attractive overall condition, this example of the highly coveted ref. 1680 stands out through its clean and attractive Mark IV dial with red Submariner script.

Nicknamed “Red-Sub” by Rolex collectors, the timepiece features attractive luminous accents and hands that have aged to a uniform colour. Adding to the appeal is the well preserved stainless steel case with strong proportions, featuring clear reference and serial numbers. Overall, the present watch is a well preserved example of the celebrated reference 1680 “Red-Sub”.

Introduced in late 1960s, the reference 1680 was the first Submariner to feature a date indicator as well as the cyclops magnifier. Distinguished by its red Submariner printing to the dial, the “Red Sub” has become a cult classic.

Il quadrante originale è un Mark IV in ottime condizioni, il materiale luminoso è di colore beige pallido e presenta qualche leggera ossidazione in alcuni punti visibili con ingrandimento. Il simbolo Rolex sulla corona presenta una piccola area nella parte centrale che sembra essere stata ritoccata, visibile con ingrandimento ma non visibile ad occhio nudo. La cassa è in buone condizioni, è stata lucidata ad un certo punto nel passato, ma conservando buone proporzioni, sono presenti moderati graffi sulla superficie proporzionati alla datazione dell’orologio, l’interno della cassa è stampato 1680 / I. 70, il bracciale è datato metà degli anni Settanta, in buone condizioni con qualche leggero graffio sulla superficie. Il movimento è risultato essere funzionante al tempo della catalogazione, compatibilmente alla datazione dell’orologio. La precisione del movimento non è stata testata, è consigliato un service dell’orologio.

The original dial is Mark IV and in very good overall condition, the luminous material is an even pale beige colour with just slight oxidation in places visible under magnification. The Rolex crown emblem has one small area in the centre that appears to have been retouched which is visible under magnification, but not noticeable to the naked eye. The case is in generally good condition, repolished at some time the past but retaining strong proportions, moderate surface scratching commensurate with age, the inside of the case back is stamped 1680 / I. 70, the bracelet dates from the mid to late 1970s, in good condition with just light surface scratches. The movement is in working order at the time of cataloguing, consistent with the age of the watch. The movement has not been tested for accuracy. A service is recommended.
