Literature
"Gota de Aceite" emeralds, or "oil drop" emeralds, refer to exceptionally high-quality stones, primarily from Colombia, that display a rare and sought-after visual effect. This effect appears as a slightly hazy, silky texture inside the gem, reminiscent of an oil drop gently diffusing beneath the surface.

Previously attributed to calcite inclusions, recent research has shown that the gota de aceite effect is actually caused by irregularities in the emerald's crystal structure. These anomalies, formed during growth, disperse light in a unique way, creating the soft, oily appearance.

This effect, mainly observed in Colombian emeralds, enhances the gem's natural beauty and value. Emeralds exhibiting this phenomenon are highly prized for their delicate glow and rarity, making them coveted pieces.
