Lot Essay

Ulla and Martin Kaufmann (b. 1941) have been creating pieces together since 1970 and are recognised as one of the major silver and goldsmiths of our time. Their relationship has given birth to a distinctive style almost calligraphic with clean, elegant lines, unique shapes and volumes.

With their work particularly well represented in museums in Germany and the USA : as Museo Degli Argenti, Palazzo Pitti, Florenz, (2011), Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A. (2013) Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim im Reuchlinhaus, Pforzheim (2019), Museum of Arts & Design in NY, to name few.
Ulla and Martin Kaufmann created the rock crystal cross for Hildesheim Cathedral. They have won many awards: the Bavarian State Prize in 2003, the Grassi Preis Award, and have received Essen Red dot awards since 1993, culminating in 2015 with a Best of the Best award.
