Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This relined canvas is held under tension and remains structurally stable. The paint surface is covered by an aged yellowing and dirty varnish, through which are visible restorations in the sky and landscape, as well as historic paint shrinkage in the sky. There is a small isolated paint loss in the lower centre and further restorations along the edges, associated with frame wear. Ultraviolet examination confirms the above, as well as more extensive restoration to isolated patches in the lower left and the grazing horse in the foreground.
