Lot Essay

This whimsical clock - Linke's index number 86 - appeared in Linke's Place Vendôme showroom circa 1903 and the design was among the firm's numerous clichés (illustrated C. Payne, François Linke: The Belle Epoque of French Furniture, Woodbridge, 2003, pp. 160 & 487, respectively). Further examples of this model have been sold Sotheby's, New York, 22 April 2010, lot 448 ($10,000); from the collection of Raymond and Miriam Klein, Christie's, New York, 19-20 October 2011, lot 146A ($7,500); Christie's, New York, 17 October 2017, lot 152 ($5,000).
